It is a city in the Siliguri sub-division of the Darjeeling district, in the Indian state of West Bengal. Lying in the foothills of Himalayas, it provides ample opportunities for trekking and camping. A rather beautiful Mechi river runs along the border with Nepal. The river Mahananda laces the eastern border with Bangladesh. There is ample diversity in the vegetation, as there are misty forests of Dooars and also tea slopes of Darjeeling.
It is often known as the gateway to Northeast India. It is famous for its tea estates and abundant greenery. Also, the world’s highest mountain, Kanchenjunga, is accessible from here. The Darjeeling Himalayan railway is something one could look forward to as this narrow gauge mountain rail ride is on UNESCO’s world heritage list.
Then, there is the Himalayan world museum in Bagdogra.

There is also an airport called Bagdogra International Airport near Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha.
When it comes to area-wise distribution, 55.11% comes under rural area and 44.89 % comes under urban. It is a small hill station in Darjeeling district that is also a part of the Siliguri Metropolitan area, while Siliguri is the second largest city in West Bengal. They share the same airport and are 10 km away from each other.
